Launched in 2014, Five for the Future encourages organizations to contribute five percent of their resources to WordPress development. WordPress co-founder Matt Mullenweg proposed this benchmark to maintain a "golden ratio" of contributors to users. The community has risen to the challenge, with participation more than quadrupling since launch. I'm very proud to announce that the first iteration of the Five for the Future pledge program is open for pledges! Individuals and organizations can now publicly pledge their time to contribute to WordPress in a centralized place that is public and transparent.. The intent of this program is to acknowledge the organizations and individuals who contribute regularly to WordPress, helping to.

Thanks to initiatives like Five for the Future, WordPress (core) has a significant number of paid contributors so it is in a better situation than many other projects, but this doesn't mean we are safe or that we could not advance faster if we were able to attract (and retain!) more contributors in the WordPress ecosystem.


In 2014 Matt Mullenweg, founder of Automattic, announced a plan to ensure the growth and stability of WordPress in the future as a free open source platform with 'Five for the Future'. Essentially any company deriving revenue from WordPress should concentrate 5% of their time and energy generally devoted to WordPress related work to helping improve WordPress Core.


As of right now, we're not sure what the future holds for Avenue 5. But that's not to say there isn't hope for a Season 3 of the HBO comedy. A rep for the show confirmed to Decider that.
